Mercedes-Benz SL500 Review

supercarblog Mercedes SL500

I’m just pretty sure some of you, have seen many SL500 on the streets and have just wondered: What’s with all these cars? Well, if you haven’t ever steped in to a SL500, you might say that you don’t really understand what’s all the fuss about this roadster. Once you get in on a SL500, you JUST feel great! The thrill, when driving this roadster is very intense, the car simply is a real joy to drive.

The Mercedes SL500 has one, very cool design, with a sleek aerodinamical form, comes also with a very nice AMG Sport Package, consisting of: front air dam, side skirts, a rear apron and 18??????? AMG wheels. It’s just built for speed and pure driving pleasure, no obstacle can stop this car.

On a note of technicality, the SL500 has a 302 horsepower 5.0 liter V8 engine with 339 ft-lbs of torque, wich one may say is not out of the ordinary, quite standard on similar classed roadsters, but on the road….. it drives magnificent. The car????????s 7-speed electronic touch shift automatic always seems perfectly primed to pass the next slow-poke, and it’s stiff and responsive suspension sistem with independent 4-link front and 5-arm multi-link rear suspension , along with perforated front discs with 4-piston calipers plus the 11.3??????? rear brake, with 1-piston floating caliper , make this car a lot safer on the road.

To continoue on a note of safety, i want to tell you about the SL500’s advanced computer safety sistem with: Active body control, active suspension system, Electrohydraulic Braking System (SBC), ABS, Brake Assist, ESP and Automatic Slip Control. If you still manage to crash this car, you fill find that it contains 5 front/side airbags and in case of roll-overs, it’s cabin is reinforced with strenghend steel.

In 2007, we shall see a new model of this wonderful car, the S550, wich brings a surplus of horsepower and torque to the engine. But until then, try to enjoy this great piece of machinery.

Mini Cooper S Review

supercarblog Mini Cooper S

Yup, The Mini Cooper, to my pleasure, i can say is one of the most fun to drive car availeble out there. Why is it so much fun? It’s becouse of it’s shere size, that makes it really enjoyeble on the open road, when your out with your friends, and also it’s great handling. But shere fun can’t make a car succed, like the Mini Cooper has, it’s main advantages are it’s low price, not too high to be in competition with better classed models, but not too low priced to make it seem to poorly made.
The Mini Cooper is like it has it’s own atmosphere, it’s driving experience and design gives it a great look, and kinda’ makes you happy, driving this extraordinary piece of machinery. The Mini’s origins go back to the early 60’s, in England, where it made it’s footprint on the world, it’s greatest moment, was in the Beatles age.

Becouse the earlyest models, lacked power, it wasn’t very succesful in the USA, but in the UK it was totaly different, everybody was in it. It was own by such a high diversity of social classes, that you see common folk driving the same cars as rock stars or other great personalitys of the time. In time the Mini even became a simbol of the UK.

As you certanly might know, looks aren’t enough, it’s performance match it. The man, the MIni Cooper got it’s name, John Cooper was contracted to produce high-performance mini cars, and thus the mini was born. First with a 997cc, 55-horsepower engine, and eventually with 1275ccs and 76 horsepower. With excellent handling and about 1400 pounds to pull, the Mini Cooper S 1275 could show its heels to many a larger and allegedly faster car, including some two-seat sports cars.

The Mini Cooper has a very long history, being in production since 1959 untill 2000, but the Mini Cooper once halted production during 1971. The second generation went in production in the early 90′, when german auto company BMW, bought the Mini Cooper’s parent company the Rover Group, and thus, went yet again in production, with a new fresh look.
We had great expectations from this car and we were very pleased by it, it’s not the fastest or the meanest, but it’s loads of fun to drive.

The Luxury Of The Volvo 740

by: Claire Sessions

When someone says Volvo, the image of both safety and power come to mind. Volvo has developed a solid reputation for these characteristics. However, many of you may not know where and how the company began.

The original Volvo Company was started in Sweden in 1927. ???????Safety cage and crumple zones??????? was their motto and this sparked the interest of consumers who were in their 60????????s. As now, back then their focus was on the security and safety of all their passengers.

In 1998, Volvo was acquired by the Ford Motor Company to become a member of its Premier Automotive Group. That has proved to be a great investment for Ford.

One of Volvo????????s vehicles, the Volvo 740, which was produced from 1984 up until 1992, was said to have a lifespan of a decade. Over the years Volvo has actually been powered by many different engines, such as the four-cylinder in-line OHC, 986 cc or 2,316 cc, six-cylinder in-line 2,383 cc Turbo Diesel.

In 1985 the Volvo 740 SE was introduced. It had fewer options as compared to the Volvo 740 model. But it was a great start for the Swedish manufacturer since it was actually supposed to be a midsize car that offered more style, performance and overall luxury. It had been offered as a four door sedan; initially it was known as the 744. And the five-door wagon was known as the 745. Though production stopped in 1992, the older models were useful. They provided engineering information as well as components, such as the vehicle????????s engine, transmission, chassis and many other important parts. This was used when the Volvo 940 was being built.

If you own a Volvo I don????????t have to convince you about its luxury and style. You already know how great it is. Now you just know where Volvo started out and how they have successfully changed over the years.

Jeep Commander: Stuck in a Sales Rut

by: Matthew C. KeeganJeep, there is only one. As far as the Commander goes, it isn’t living up to expectations. In fact, the model is flailing with sales levels well below what they should be. What’s wrong with the Commander? Will DCX dump the model?

Just months after its much publicized release, the 7 passenger Jeep Commander is a major disappointment for DaimlerChrysler to the point where it has become an albatross around the automaker????????s neck. Stung with bloated inventories in excess of 100 days ???????? an industry killer ???????? the Commander is now commanding discounts of over $5000 per vehicle. What went wrong? Plenty, especially if you read what the pundits and prognosticators have to say about the new Jeep.

No vehicle introduction should be problematic however, as for the Jeep Commander this model has fallen well short of sales goals. There are many reasons why the Commander may be failing to live up to expectations including:

High Fuel Prices ???????? Gasoline pushing past $2.50 per gallon cannot help any SUV. With the Commander????????s three thirsty engine choices, the price at the pump can be painful. Yet, the even bigger Chevrolet Tahoe is selling well despite high fuel prices.

Dated Styling ???????? Jeep mentions the Commander????????s ???????heritage exterior design??????? as one of the chief draws for the vehicle. Take one look at the Commander, and the styling cues of the 1984 Jeep Cherokee quickly come to mind. While some vehicles successfully incorporate ???????the look??????? of an earlier model without copying the style, the Commander looks awfully like the earlier Cherokee, only stretched out. Personally, I find the style to be dated and awkward.

Cramped Interior ???????? Put the Commander up against the next biggest Jeep, the Gran Cherokee, and you will see that the interior space is just about the same. This is bad because the Commander comes equipped with a third row of seats so there should be more room. Many have complained that only two small children could fit in the last row which, incidentally, does not completely fold into the floor like the ???????stow ???????n go??????? feature on the DCX minivans.

Overpriced ???????? Fully loaded Commanders are retailing for well over $40,000. While this price range can be expected for the likes of a Yukon, Tahoe, or Expedition, it can????????t for the Commander. Of course, the Commander is bigger than the Gran Cherokee which is priced just under $40,000. However, if you put the two models side by side, many would say that the Gran Cherokee is the better of the two.

So, will DaimlerChrysler actually discontinue the Commander? That isn????????t likely. Instead, look for big rebates to remain in place and production to be permanently cut back. For the long term, DCX will need to give some serious consideration as to whether the Commander will remain part of the Jeep line up. In my opinion, if it does, it needs to be seriously overhauled in order to compete in today????????s marketplace.

In all, the Commander is a costly mistake for the automaker. During these times of strong and aggressive competition, the Commander is a misstep that cannot be ignored by DaimlerChrysler. Goodness knows the Commander is being ignored by Jeep faithful who are spurning the model altogether.

2007 Nissan Sentra: Big Surprises Inside!

by: Matthew C. KeeganNissan’s Sentra is bigger, roomier, and more luxurious than ever before. The 2007 model marks some big changes for the popular model, changes that are sure to delight Nissan fans everywhere.

Once again, Nissan is putting into practice with its all new Sentra model something that has succeeded for them in the past: push the model up market. As it first did with the Maxima and later with the Altima, Nissan has now promoted the Sentra to make room for the pending introduction of the subcompact Versa. With the all new model, Sentra fans will find a better equipped, more polished model then any other car that has ever worn the Sentra nameplate. Intrigued? You should be: the car simply goes where no Sentra has gone before: up market.

Over the years, plenty of automakers have taken a popular selling model and elevated it one notch. Why? For a few reasons: to capitalize on demand for the model ???????? a more luxurious version typically carries more profits with it then the base model. Instead of losing customers to another model [or worse, another make] when they are ready to trade up, why not move up the model instead? Another reason: the introduction of a newer, but smaller model in the line up. For Nissan, the latter reason holds especially true as the subcompact Versa, a car built to compete against the likes of Scion enters the Nissan line up at about the same time.

The new Sentra is much more roomier than the previous model. In fact, it could be mistaken for a midsize car as it packs in an additional 10 cubic feet of interior space. Other surprises found with the 2007 Sentra include a center console/shifter and dual folding high back rear seats to maximize carrying potential. Importantly, front and side impact air bags are now standard and a whole host of options not previously available with the model can now be had. These options include: smart key accessibility, Bluetooth wireless, a sound system to die for.

Best of all, fuel mileage is exceptionally good. Mating a 2.0L I4 to a six speed manny tranny yields EPA estimated fuel results of 29 city/36 highway. These figures are likely to be at or near the top for any car in its category.

Yes, the Nissan Sentra is a pleasant surprise, one that the Nissan company hopes that you will notice. For people looking for a bargain basement model, the Sentra no longer qualifies. Instead, the tiny Versa takes over and it will deliver two things that Nissan knows you will love: exceptionally high gas mileage and an affordable price starting around $12,000. Look for well equipped Sentras to retail for around $18,000.
